The Friday Gut-Check Before Q4 Really Start

Business positioning 2027 sounds like a phrase from a strategy deck. Then a client asks the plain version of it, mid-call on a Tuesday: what do you do now, and has that changed since last year?

One of my private clients got that question last week and stumbled on her own answer. Her business had grown so much in twelve months that her old positioning no longer matched her current client roster.

Why Business Positioning 2027 Starts With What You Outgrew

Positioning problems rarely announce themselves. They show up sideways: in a stumbled answer, a proposal that undersells what you deliver, or a referral that sends the wrong client entirely.

During my years managing our half of a $5 million development program with Garrett Turbochargers, I watched positioning drift inside a Fortune 500 company too. Department describing themselves the way they had three programs ago. Nobody had lied. They’d simply grown faster than their own language.

Your business has probably done the same thing this year. The question is whether your website, your proposals, and your own explanation at a networking event have caught up.

The Business Positioning 2027 Test

Here’s a fast way to check. Describe your business out loud, in one breath, to someone who’s never met you. Then ask yourself if that description would have made sense a year ago, or if it’s already stale.

If it hasn’t changed since last September, that’s not necessarily a problem – some businesses find their positioning early and hold it. But if you’ve added a service line, raised your prices twice, or started attracting a different caliber of client, that matters. If your description hasn’t moved to match, you’re leaving money on the table every time you introduce yourself.

I coordinated SEC filings across three countries for nearly a decade. One thing stayed constant: the companies that positioned themselves accurately raised capital faster than the ones still describing last year’s business. Clarity moves faster than charm.

What to Shift Before January

You don’t need a rebrand. What you need is three sentences that are true now: who you serve, what changes for them, and why you’re the one to do it.

Write those three sentences this week, even in rough form. Test them on a colleague, a client, or someone in this community who’ll tell you the truth. If the sentences make you wince slightly, because they sound bigger or more specific than what you’ve been saying, that wince is information. Trust it.

Business positioning 2027 isn’t about reinventing yourself before the calendar turns. It’s about making sure your words have finally caught up to your work.

The Shift Worth Making Now

Take the three sentences into Q4 with you. Say them in the next networking room, the next proposal, the next introduction. Notice whether people lean in differently.
